Questionable 5

Zion Childress
Questionable
Childress is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, and Schottenheimer indicated that the 24-year-old cornerback will be sidelined for an extended period of time. It's unclear whether Childress will be available for the Cowboys' preseason opener against the Seahawks on Saturday, Aug. 15.

James Houston
Questionable
The linebacker was limited with a back issue during the Cowboys' minicamp in June. Houston played in all 17 regular-season games for Dallas in 2025, recording 35 tackles (18 solo), including 5.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He is lined up to play a role again in 2026.
Reported: Aug 03
Jalen Thompson
Questionable
Thompson sat out of practice this past week while recovering from a hip injury, but he was given the green light to return for Saturday's practice. He was a fifth-round selection of the Cardinals in the 2019 NFL Draft and spent the first seven seasons of his NFL career with Arizona before signing a three-year deal with the Cowboys in March. Thompson figures to start alongside Malik Hooker at safety this season, with P.J. Locke (knee) and Markquese Bell providing depth at the position.

P.J. Locke
Questionable
The safety suffered a hyperextended knee during a training camp practice July 29, though he avoided a serious injury. Locke is lined up to serve as Dallas' third safety behind Malik Hooker and Jalen Thompson, and as long as he can return to the field sooner rather than later, he should have a good chance to cement that spot.

Princeton Fant
Questionable
Fant suffered a torn ACL and sprained MCL, eliminating any chance for the tight end to participate in the 2026 season. He is scheduled to have surgery for both injuries within the next several days. The fourth-year player out of Tennessee has played in 11 career regular-season games and will be a free agent in 2027. In a corresponding move, the Cowboys claimed tight end Zack Kuntz off waivers from the Raiders.
